About Captiva

Captiva Island is located on the southwest coast of Florida, in the Gulf of Mexico, known to many as “Florida’s Paradise Island.”

The Island is approximately 4.5 miles long and .5 miles wide. Out of the 700 acres, the state of Florida has converted more than ½ of it into a state park. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, lush vegetation and wonderful climate.

The island area has a little over 40 inches of precipitation each year, Even though the average temperature is 74º, it can range from low 40’s to high 90’s. It is always a good idea to check local area weather forecast before traveling. The summer ocean breezes do keep it comfortable year-round.

Getting to Captiva Island

The nearest major city is Fort Myers, Tampa is approximately 140 miles north, Miami is approximately 145 miles to the west. Captiva Island is accessible by automobile, boat or ferry. Captiva is also only 25 minutes by boat from the mainland or a short ferry ride from Pine Island.
